Evaluation Feedback

Eleanor - have a look at charlotteclarkg321.blogspot.com and evepattersong321.blogspot.com to see examples of a grade evaluations.  What questions have they asked of themselves and their work that you can?  Note the level of analysis in their very strong approaches.

In your responses to your final production make sure you are clearly referring to choices and outcomes in an evaluative way - make sure you are addressing the areas outlined by me below:

What did you do? Explain a transition or effect you opted for in the editing process.  What effect did you achieve?  Explain how the choice you made was intended to make the target audience think or feel.  How does this show progression in your use of skills? Explain how this is better than your AS production's outcomes by linking to what you did in your portfolio last year.

These choices are really important for you to reflect on to show you fully understand how you have developed your skills - and make sure you evaluate the comments made by the test audience (the class) using specialist terminology.

We do not have long until the deadline, Easter Monday, for this final stage of your portfolio - so make sure you are pushing yourself and achieving the marks your efforts this year deserve!

Class Feedback for our Film and Targets

Targets:

After watching our final film as a class, we were shown feedback, both good and to develop on. From the above video, we are shown that we need to work on.

Target 1:
Develop the use of stills to create a more tense scenario.

Target 2:
Add more titles. for example, additional director and character names.

We had our media class watch the opening of our film INHABITANT and then give us feedback on it afterwards as it would be very useful since they are the age group of our target audience. Most of the feedback was very positive, they said that they liked the setting of the dark attic as it made them feel claustrophobic and vulnerable and Hannah said that setting our film in a home was a good idea as it made it more "personal" as the audience can "relate" to the setting. Also we got good feedback on the use of our jump cuts, and how we edited the scenes in the attic to create distortion. mos of them agreed that we achieved a successful build up to the climax at the end, we achieved this by having slow paced titles and having our character film insignificant objects in the attic and slowly pan the camera to the right with a torch to create tension. How ever we also got feedback giving us tips on how we could improve our film. Luke said we could include  more still shots in our film to create variety as most of the scene is done by hand to connote home footage. Also Shonam advised us that we should of included more credits informing the audience who stars in this film the producers, Directors and script writers and more, this was one of our faults as we only included a small amount of credits at the end of the scene and they lasted only a few seconds.

The Gallows - Opening scene analysis

This is one of the many movies that influenced the making of "Inhabitant". This influenced the making of our movie as the opening scene begins with camcorder footage, this ties in with ours. This emphasises the realism of something like this happening. They also used distortion and glitches which give the same effect of our film. The time and date is also shown in the corner of the screen, making the audience aware of it being home footage. We also used this effect, the font was VCR which added to the effect.

Inhabitant Bloopers

Editing Part 2

Due to our film being based on a home camcorder footage look, we downloaded effects that created a slight glitch and interference with the camera. This was used towards the part where the "inhabitant|" appears, this connotes the power of a supernatural being interfering with the frequencies of the camcorder. This effect was an "Bad TV Transition" which was then dubbed over with a non copyright glitch effect that emphasised the bad signals, this created tension towards the jump scare, as it emphasised the realism of the situation. We also developed a low battery image was flashed repeatedly across the screen, showing danger and connoting something to happen.

Editing

For our film, we used the software "adobe Premiere Pro cc" this enabled us to get the best editing out of our film. Prior to the making of "Inhabitant" we had little experience in editing. Therefore, we invested in some online editing tutorials. There are several channels dedicated to teaching their knowledge of online editing, specifically in the software we were using.

To achieve the home video footage, we cropped the sequence to a smaller format and added layers of effects to give it the old camcorder look. Some of the features we used were "Arithmetic" and "Noise", noise gave a slight tint of grain to the picture, whereas Arithmetic focused on enhancing the blue, red and green lines, which created an old TV Look.
